Flooding and safety concerns caused the San Antonio-based grocery chain to close Houston-area stores on Aug. 27. H-E-B reported Aug. 28 that the company now has 63 stores in Houston and nearby cities open for business.
Houston-based microgrid company Enchanted Rock installed natural gas generators at an H-E-B supermarket in Bay City over the past year. The generators allow the store to have power at a time when the rest of the grid may be down.
But at least 18 of those stores are running in “island mode,” which means they are drawing power from natural gas-fired generators installed by Houston-based microgrid company Enchanted Rock Ltd. over the past year.
