Enchanted Rock, a leading resiliency microgrid company, today announced that its Founder and CEO, Thomas McAndrew, has been named to the 2021 Environment+Energy Leader 100, an annual “best of” list of environment and energy professionals.
With increasing severe weather events, an aging power grid infrastructure, and the threat of physical and cyber-attacks to the grid, the need for reliable, back-up power continues to grow. In 2006, McAndrew, a U.S. Nuclear Navy veteran, founded Enchanted Rock with a mission to address this challenge for the commercial and industrial market.
McAndrew patented a natural gas/renewable gas-powered, dual-purpose, microgrid that ensures power resiliency while offering grid stability services in support of increasing renewable energy sources. Most recently, Enchanted Rock was able to support its customers throughout hurricane season – keeping the lights on during 376 power outages that would have caused a cumulative 938.52 hours of outages.
This model has proven successful in providing affordable, clean resiliency to critical infrastructure that may not have had the capital to otherwise participate, while also providing much needed support for the taxed power grid.
Beyond supporting customers and their surrounding communities, McAndrew is focused on educating the energy workforce of the future. As a veteran, he makes it a priority to provide employment opportunities for other veterans. Approximately 30% of Enchanted Rock’s employees are veterans.
