Thomas McAndrew

Thomas McAndrew founded Enchanted Rock in 2006 to revolutionize the distributed energy resources industry through reliable, cost-effective, and low-carbon solutions for commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. In 2009, Enchanted Rock introduced electrical Resiliency-as-a-service, commissioning over 530 MW of distributed generation across 250+ sites. Initially leveraging emergency diesel systems, the company has since transitioned to market-leading natural gas microgrids.

With over 36 years in the energy sector, McAndrew’s experience spans from operating complex nuclear facilities to pioneering distributed power solutions. He began his career as a Naval Nuclear Chief Engineer aboard the USS Eisenhower and USS South Carolina, overseeing nuclear propulsion systems. After six years in the U.S. Navy, he joined Southern Company, supporting critical systems at Plant Farley nuclear facilities.

McAndrew later shifted to the financial side of energy, leading profitable energy trading and risk management operations for various merchant companies. At Calpine, he also oversaw the commercial startup of numerous natural gas combined cycle plants.

McAndrew holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, a Master’s equivalent in Nuclear Power Operations from the U.S. Navy, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
